Up to 20% of the adult population experiences hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating in the armpits. This can sometimes lead to
ruined clothes and embarrassment at work or in social situations.
If antiperspirants don’t seem to help then Sweat Gland Ablation can be used to treat the problem. There are short-term solutions such as Botox® which can provide temporary relief from excessive perspiration, but these techniques must be repeated.
Sweat Gland Ablation can stop excessive sweating, with one minimally invasive procedure.
To perform Sweat Gland Ablation, Dr. Elizabeth will make a very small incision in the armpit area. A small cannula (hollow tube) containing a laser fiber is gently inserted into the incision. The fiber delivers precise laser light that coagulates and ablates soft tissue of the axillary glands, destroying the sweat glands.
The procedure eliminates excessive sweating, but does not interfere with normal daily routines, exercise, or other activities.
After Effects And Recovery
After the procedure, you may experience a bit of swelling, bruising and soreness for a few days. Most people are able to return to work the following day, and are able to resume most normal activities within a week or two.
After ablation, patients typically experience no difficulty functioning without the missing sweat glands.
