The reality is we live in a youth and appearance centered culture, and men are increasingly feeling the pressures to look youthful and vital. Often, it’s not about wanting to look younger, but the vitality and confidence a more youthful appearance may give in an increasingly competitive world. Men and women age differently, and Dr. Whitaker specifically designed the Empowerlift for men, keeping this in mind. Having performed thousands of facelifts over the course of her career, she designed the EmpowerLift to customize the procedure for each man based on his anatomy and areas of concern. Neck fullness and laxity is often a particular focus for men, from younger patients in the business world to grandfathers whose grandkids play with their neck “waddle”. Overall The trend in facelifts has been toward having surgery at a younger age. The new typical patient is likely to be in their 40s to 50s and may be just beginning to see some signs of aging.
If there is minimal jowling and primarily loose neck skin, the EmpowerLift can be customized to focus on the neck. This customized necklift has the advantage of shorter incisions primarily behind the ear and under the chin that are well camouflaged, and addresses the aging changes specifically in the neck. Not everyone is a candidate, as significant facial sagging may make an EmpowerLift addressing the face and neck the better choice, but we will discuss at your consultation which version of the EmpowerLift best suits your rejuvenation goals. As a natural look is frequently a great concern for male patients, along with incision camouflage, our focus is always a natural result designed to help you look your personal best. Our goal is a healthy and vital empowered look, not an overpulled attempt at looking overly young.
Whether earlier or more advanced aging changes, an EmpowerLift can provide natural-looking restoration of more youthful facial contours. Depending on the extent of the surgery, the process can take from one to two plus hours and local anesthesia. Some swelling and bruising are expected after an EmpowerLift, but much of it will diminish within the first few weeks.
In the past, lifting the face and neck could only be accomplished with incisions around the ear and removal of excess skin. Newer laser technologies allow not only for fat lipolysis but heating of the subcutaneous attachments and the dermis stimulating new collagen formation and progressive tightening of the skin. Heating of the skin with the newest 1440nm wavelength of the laser technology at Atlanta Face and Body Center, creates significantly more skin tightening than surgery alone or with prior laser technologies. This procedure can be performed via small punctures at the base of the earlobe and under the chin for access of the laser fiber. The result is fat reduction under the chin and of the jowls with tightening of the overlying skin with minimal downtime and recovery. It can easily be performed in less than an hour with local anesthesia and mild sedation.
The procedure is most suited primarily to two types of patients. Younger patients in their 20’s and 30’s who were candidates for traditional chin liposuction, but can now experience the added benefit of skin tightening to significantly enhance the neck contour results. The procedure can have a significant impact for younger patients with hereditary fat deposits that are resistant to diet and exercise. The other group of patients are those with early aging changes, typically in their 40’s and 50’s, who would benefit from the facial contouring effects combined with skin tightening to achieve the maximum improvement in face and neck contour possible without skin excision.
Few people come in complaining of sagging brows, yet this very often may contribute to a tired look around the eyes. Frown lines, wrinkling across the forehead, and an increasing heaviness of the eyebrows can make look older than their years. Others may mistake your appearance as tired, angry, or sad when this is not how you actually feel. As a result, many men may choose a forehead or browlift as a stand-alone procedure or in addition to an eyelid lift. The browlift techniques available allow for incision camouflage for almost any hairline, and are chosen in part based on variations in how men age. We will discuss the different options together during your consultation.
Every year, hundreds of thousands of men like you choose blepharoplasty to revitalize their appearance. Droopy eyelids can give you a tired look and also can potentially impair vision. Under the eye bags also contribute to a tired, aged look. Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, helps correct these problems and can also reduce puffiness and bags under the eyes. While this procedure does not change fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes or sagging eyebrows, there are additional procedures that can address these concerns as well. Though blepharoplasty is often performed as a single procedure, I may also recommend a browlift, EmpowerLift, or skin resurfacing to address other aging changes and achieve the best results.
Midface and Cheek “Lifting”
While loss of cheek fullness is more a stigmata of aging for women, men also lose volume in the face as they age. This results in “deflation” of the facial tissues, sagging, and creates hollowing and a tired look. Volume loss is most pronounced around the eyes, cheeks, and jawline, where fat grafting can create a more balanced rejuvenation of the face that may be combined with other techniques such as eyelid lift and/or a facelift. Conceptually, the goal of facial fat grafting is to replace fat that has been lost, filling hollows, and creating more youthful highlights while still maintaining a masculine look. Adding fat back to the face may even help skin texture and tone through what is thought to be a stem-cell response that the skin undergoes over areas of transplanted fat. As a minimally invasive procedure without traditional incisions, fat grafting has gained wide popularity. Fat grafting involves removing fat from one’s own abdomen or thighs to put into certain regions of the face that start to lose fat. Only tiny amounts of fat are removed so this should not be equated with liposuction. At Atlanta Face and Body Center, a microdroplet injection technique helps maximize grafted fat survival and overall results.
