How does Radiesse work?
While most fillers on the market today contain hyaluronic acid, Radiesse contains calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA), a mineral-like compound found naturally in your bones. Upon injection, the CaHA gel particles integrate into your skin and stimulate the production of collagen and elastin over time, leading to a more resilient skin structure and a more youthful appearance. The natural-looking results last a year or more for many patients. Some patients even experience up to two years of results from Radiesse. Treatments may then be repeated to maintain optimal results.

What should I expect during and after my treatment with Radiesse?
Radiesse is administered through a series of injections, depending on the size of the area you want addressed. Dr. Elizabeth will determine the right dosage for you during your consultation. After properly sterilizing and numbing the area for your comfort, she will strategically inject the filler to restore lost volume in the affected area. Each treatment takes only a few minutes. There is generally no downtime after injections, but we recommend no strenuous activity for a couple of days. You may experience some swelling, but this usually dissipates in about 24-36 hours.
Are there other side effects from Radiesse injections?
In addition to mild swelling, the most common side effects seen in clinical trials have included the following:
- Redness
- Tenderness
- Pain at the injection site
- Bruising
- Itching
- Nodules or bumps/lumps
These effects, if they occur, are usually mild and temporary. We’ll discuss all potential side effects at your consultation so you’ll know what to expect.
What results can I expect with Radiesse?
Many patients notice an immediate plumping effect after their Radiesse injections, with full benefits showing up in about two to three weeks. With diluted Radiesse, lines and wrinkles typically improve in about four weeks, and full results are achieved in about four months. Results from Radiesse injections generally last one to two years thanks to gradual collagen stimulation.
How many treatments with Radiesse will I need?
Two to three treatments spaced about one to two months apart typically provide the best results with Radiesse, though some patients experience desired results with only one treatment. The specific number of treatments you will need, however, will depend on factors like your overall skin health and the amount of volume loss and/or skin laxity you’re wanting to address.
