What Is a Lip Lift and How Can It Benefit Me?

What Is a Lip Lift and How Can It Benefit Me?

Did you know that 3 out of 5 people don’t feel comfortable in their own skin? There are many factors that might make a person feel less confident such as skin issues, weight issues, and more. More often than not, self-confidence problems stem from the appearance of one’s face.

For example, a person might feel self-conscious about her thin lips. Fortunately, there are many ways to fix problems like these, and a lip lift is one of them. A lip lift specifically involves lifting the top lip so that more of the pink part of the lip shows on a person’s face.

This is much different than other lip augmentation techniques such as lip fillers. If you don’t know much about this cosmetic procedure, keep reading and learn more about how a lip lift can give you bigger lips in no time.

What Is a Lip Lift?

What is a lip lift, you might ask? It all has to do with making your lips appear larger and fuller. This is of great interest to many people since it is generally accepted that fuller lips are more attractive than thinner lips.

Some people may try to expand the size of their lips at home with various kits and ingredients but to no avail. Some of these kits to get bigger lips can even be dangerous for your lips. The only real way to get bigger lips is to go through some kind of cosmetic procedure or plastic surgery.

The lip lift procedure is a surgical procedure that involves lifting the upper lip so that it is closer to the bottom of the nose. The space between the upper lip and the bottom of the nose is called the philtrum. If this space is too long, your face might look unusually elongated.

It might also make your upper lip look thinner and smaller than it really is. Because a lip lift is a surgical procedure, it is also considered an invasive procedure and involves some downtime. This may not be ideal if you have a busy schedule and don’t want to sit around healing for a certain period of time.

The Details

If you aren’t sure if a lip lift is right for you, you will want to consider it for some time before going through with it. That way, you can make sure that you are making the right decision for your face. If you are unsure how to decide, your plastic surgeon should be able to help you and give you advice.

But why would you choose a lip lift in the first place? Why not choose other, less invasive lip treatments such as lip fillers?

Lip Lift vs. Lip Fillers

There is a lot of debate between lip fillers and lip lifts. After all, they both give you the appearance of having larger lips. However, just because they achieve the same result doesn’t mean that they are exactly the same.

There are actually many important differences between these two treatments. In particular, lip fillers are not permanent. Lip fillers are usually made of hyaluronic acid.

This type of acid is not the kind that will burn your skin in the slightest. Your body actually produces hyaluronic acid all on its own. It is a watery substance that also attracts more water wherever you put it.

This is one of the many reasons why hyaluronic acid fillers are some of the most popular fillers around. Another reason why they’re so popular is that they are quite safe compared to other types of fillers and lip treatments. But there is a catch: hyaluronic acid lip fillers don’t last very long.

Because they are so watery, these fillers will start to dissolve into your body in less than a year. After that point, you will no longer be able to enjoy the appearance of your large, plump lips anymore. To keep your big lips, you will have to keep going back to get more fillers every year and even several times a year.

As you can imagine, this can be very expensive, especially if you are getting large volumes of filler injected into your lips.

Understanding the Difference

A lip lift, on the other hand, is a more permanent procedure. You should keep in mind that a lip lift is more expensive than hyaluronic acid fillers, at least at first.

Because you will need to keep getting more fillers, the price of the fillers over time will eventually match and exceed the price of a lip lift. For that reason, a lip lift is actually much cheaper than lip fillers in the long run. It will also save you plenty of time because once you get a lip lift, you won’t have to keep going in for more treatment sessions.

This is ideal if you have a busy schedule and don’t have time to waste. The main downside of a lip lift is that it may not provide the same volume that lip injections can. Instead, a lip lift focuses more on the appearance of having larger lips.

When you look at your lips in three dimensions, you will find that lip injections will give you plumper lips from all angles. However, lips that are stuffed full of fillers can look unnatural. A lip lift, on the other hand, tends to produce an appearance that is much more natural.

There are also several different lip lifts that you can choose from so you can get the exact look that you’re looking for.

During the Lip Lift Procedure

The lip lift procedure is very simple and nothing to be worried about in the slightest. Many fear that the procedure will be painful, but you should not experience any pain during a lip lift. This is because your plastic surgeon will provide you with local anesthesia.

This will completely numb the area that your doctor will work on. If you are very nervous about the procedure, you can take some oral medication to calm you down beforehand. Before making any incisions, your doctor will likely draw a line with a marker on your skin to mark where the incision should be.

Before the procedure, you and your doctor should have already talked about what kind of look you want from a lip lift. That way, your surgeon will be able to provide you with the best results. The procedure itself should not take very long.

Because it involves such a small area, you can expect the procedure to be over within an hour or so. But what about the recovery time?

Lip Lift Recovery Time

The recovery time is arguably just as important as the procedure itself. If you don’t take the recovery time seriously, your lip might not heal as it should. As a result, it might not look as good as you were hoping.

To make sure that your lip heals well, there are a few things you should keep in mind. You will want to avoid any strenuous exercise for about two weeks as your lip heals. Sweat can end up infecting the incision if you aren’t careful.

You will want to use your lips as little as possible. This means you should avoid pursing your lips, talking excessively, and eating foods that require a lot of chewing. As long as you do this and make sure to get plenty of rest in the weeks following the procedure, your lip lift should be a success.

Everything You Need to Know About Lip Lifts

A lip lift is a permanent surgical procedure in which a plastic surgeon will raise your upper lip closer to the bottom of your nose. As a result, your lips will look much fuller than before.
